Hello!

How do you determine if the connection between a concrete beam and concrete column is partially released and by how much? In STAAD there is a partial moment release in beam specs where you input a certain value in MPX, MPY and MPZ. What effect would this have on connection details?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You could be conservative, and design the connection and members for both cases, fully released and fully fixed. This will give you different moments in different areas of the beams and columns which you can design for the worst case.

Thanks for the reply.

If we could save a few steel by this analysis, it would really help for future projects. Because if we design for both cases it will be very costly.
