SRV Chatter 1

Can anyone offer an opinion based on experience or physics which support the position that there is more tendency for SRV in Liquid to service to Chatter than SRV in Compressible Fluid Service? Thank you.

No, I think the opposite is true because of the momentum of the stream of incompressible liquid. After all, it's that momentum that causes liquid valves to require much more blowdown before they'll re-seat. I consider liquid valve to operate in more of a modulating than non-modulating (pop-acting) manner.

This topic has been widely debated for a long time, with no concensus agreement. However, I think most people will agree that there is less concern about inlet pressure loss causing chatter in liquid valves, as compared to vapor valves.

Thank you. I appreciate the prompt reply. My experience is mostly with steam service valves where chatter is easily diagnosed and corrected. However, I know there may be pressure losses through any piping system, so I need to determine if chatter is resulting.
