Split lines in surface after mirroring

I've been reverse engineering a SW part and noticed that some surfaces don't appear to have a split line after mirroring. It looks like the certain features were originally done as a symmetrical piece along the centerline. The model was then split/cut/seperated along the middle to give access to the interior (i think...). The model was then mirrored back together to make a complete closed model. Now the weird thing is that some features have a split line while others don't although all features started out as a swept surface that was tangential at the centerline. Does someone know what's going on?

Thanks,
Tim
