Spiral Welding shaft repair?

Hello,

In several websites for electric motor and pump repairs I found a shaft repair method called spiral welding technique

If anybody knows something regarding this method, please share...

Is it suitable for electric motors/pumps wоrn shafts? What is special?

Because what I know is to weld the shaft in lines parralel with the shaft, placed at 180o, to avoid shaft bending

It's not that special, it's also known as spray welding. It can be used on any shaft, but a motor shaft would need to be removed from the motor, likewise a pump shaft.

I've seen it done on shafts upto 1000mm in diameter.

If just a method of depositing metal in a way that does not affect the parent metal properties.

Hi just come across this post. I'm a machinist who works in place where we do spiral welding. Weld and machine many pump shafts and electrical motor shafts.

Spiral welding we do is done using mig welders and the lathes turning on a slow drive and feeding across on the screw feed. What in particular is it you would like to know?

Whatever recovery technique for the shaft you choose, make sure the vendor has an experience list covering the specific application and shaft material.

Audited quality control of the process and routine QA testing are important too.

If the vendor claims they can repair "any" shaft material by welding, run away from them very quickly.
