Looking for the best choice in 8" (200mm) Diameter shaft material for an 40" OD Impeller (1016mm) mining slurry pump. Leaning toward 4140. Any advice is much appreciated.

Was the original adequate and why the question?

If memory serves me, many of the Goulds slurry pumps have 1045 shafts with 4340 as the 'high strength' option. How this relates to your situation, nobody knows. It's simply one data point in the universe of possibilities.

We had a similar size pump for limestone slurry. We went with 410SS I believe based on vendor recommendations, but that was many years ago so I cant remember all the details.
