Hi

Could anyone please tell me the specified strength (in 1937) of the following:

rebar

structural steel

thanks a lot

Structural Steel (AISC 3rd Edition, 1937): 20,000psi allowable(extreme fiber tension in bending), A-9 steel. As the 3rd Edition came out in 1937, many still used the 18,000 psi allowable for A9 steel, as given in the 2nd Edition.

Rebar: Fy= 40,000 psi, working stress = 16,000 to 18,000 psi, depending on applicable code. This was for the most common rebar, called "intermediate grade."
