I am trying to make opening in existing non loadbearing block wall in seismic zone building to bring some equipment inside the building and after close the opening.
Do I need to provide any special details due to seismic condition?
Thanks

Thanks KingNero
I live in hurricane prone area where you can predict the weather. Is there anyway to predict seismic? If not any special precaution or detail required for the job?

Maybe no EQ details are necessary during the install, but if the wall is a shear wall, the shear capacity of the wall to resist seismic and wind loads both in plane and out of plane need to be maintained for any future seismic or wind events after the install is completed...

Excellent point, Mike. I answered for the temporary condition only, assuming that the wall would be rebuilt to its original condition after the equipment is installed inside the building. The permanent condition may control if the wall is not rebuilt to its original condition.

It was merely a joke.
If you take this seriously, you could always provide a note in your engineering report, something along the likes of "work to be exectuted during a time frame wherein no significant seismic activity is predicted".

Thank you guys. I got it. Appreciate your help.
