Source for oil-filled, water-cooled transformer?

I thought I had sent this question in already, but it never appeared - so I hope this is not a duplication.

We are looking for a manufacturer who might be willing and able to provide two oil-filled, water-cooled transformers (that's what was specified):

"Approximate" ratings (to protect the guilty):
5 MVA
15 kV - 5 kV
On-load tap changer

All of the usual suspects were tried and after they stopped laughing, they said no.

Anyone have a lead on a manufacturer who might be willing to build a couple of these?

That dosent sound so odd, wonder why they laughed, did you try the GE Power (Formerly waukashaw, formerly grand eagle, formerly Ohio Transformer) facillity in Palmetto, FL. I used to work there and they did custom jobs along those lines.

These used to be all lumped in the FOW cooling class but have been seperated in 2 classifications now, OFWF and ODWF classes. ANSI C57.12.00-2000

Try Jordan Transformer in MN, T&R in South Dakota, VTCU in Idaho...................

There are aftermarket coolers which can be retrofitted to existing units - is this an option for a remote installation?

I've got a couple sprinklers left over since we installed an in-ground sprinkling system..........it would not be the first time that's been done.

May I ask why water cooled is required?

Thanks for the leads - I'll check them out.

Water-cooled transformer apparently was specified to match some older existing units at a hydro facility. These used to be fairly common - but not so much in the last 60 years or so.

Have you considered cast coil?

It's not up to me - I'm just trying to find a source for what was specified.

An LTC was specified, so not sure how that would be done with a cast coil unit.

Normally all transformer manufacturers will be in a position to supply water cooled units.

dpc, water cooled units are not so un common.In reality for certain applications this is the only solution eg Generator transformers in underground hydro power stations,arc furnace transfornmers in steel industry,Rectifier and auto regulating units in aluminium smelters.In later cases,dust and fumes makes normal oil to air coolers get choked up soon.

Instead of single tube oil to water shell tube heat exchangers,today more and more double tube coolers are used to avoid accidental oil spill in to river streams.

They may be in a position to provide one, but so far only one has offered to quote these units.

I haven't seen one outside of a hydro plant in 35 years.
