There is a company somewhere that uses an israli designed process to sonicly and/or pressure-vibrate un-weldable materials together such as mild steel to aluminum. I have a sample sitting on my desk. Does anyone know if anyone is selling the equipment? What will it weld? Can you buy pre-welded bar stock to use at joints between steel and aluminum plates to weld to?

Steel to aluminum can also be done with friction welding, if your pieces exhibit rotational symmetry. My previous employer was making propshafts by friction welding a 6061 aluminum tube to a steel flange.
