Hey everyone,

Alright, I am having trouble installing SolidWorks on one of my machines. I began by trying to install SolidWorks on my desktop and received error messages after inserting the 2nd CD ("Error 1305.Error Could not access file..."). After trying to run the installation various times without any success, I decided to try and install the program on my laptop. The installation on the laptop was successful, and no error messages were displayed. I looked up what 1305.Error means and it turns out that it is common when one of the CD's is scratched. Since my laptop had no problem reading the 2nd CD I extracted the CD image and burned it onto a new CD, so that I could now run the installation on my desktop.

I thought the problem was solved except for the fact that now when I run the installation I can't even reach the stage where I am asked to insert the 2nd CD. During the installation, as soon as I am asked to put in my serial code and I press next I get a small window that says "Distribution characteristic 101". I once again turned to the internet for a solution and found that someone had previously solved this problem by deleting the Keys on the registry (as well as any folders left on the harddrive) that SolidWorks had left behind (performing a "clean" install). Well it seemed like this solution worked for the previous person to have this problem but it sure did not work for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Have you read the FAQ on a clean uninstall/reinstall? Often, that procedure is necessary (much more extensive than changing/deleting registry keys).

I've had similar things happen between different optical drives--if something doesn't work on one, I usually switch to another just to see where the problem lies.

The only time I have seen that error is with SW05 SP0.0 I have not seen that error since then. Have you checked the SW Knowledge base yet?

I suggest you search there for that error. SW may have a solution already there.

Hey again, and thanks for the replies.

The version that I am trying to install is SW06 SP0.0. I also have read the uninstall procedure, but I can't uninstall because the program never installed to begin with. I have never been able to install this SW on my desktop computer, and this is the first time that I am using SW (I was a ProE user before...but now I am switching to SW).
Further, I have checked the SW database but was not able to found any information on this. I am new to SW so I might be missing something here, but I have spent a significant amount of time trying to get this software up and running on my PC.
