What is the command (in solidworks or autocad) to draw a long beam in 2D that is represented as a short beam cut in the middle?

Its called Break View

Interesting point BluTurtle - (The last time I used AutoCAD - 10+ years ago - I'm not even sure it had a 'Break View' feature)

A zig-zag line to represent the cut in AutoCAD and a Break View in SW.

Thanks to you guys. I have in fact checked my Solidworks 2D drawings window myself and found and used the break command. However, I could not find any command to SHORTEN a broken long beam. Can anybody help me?

Just grab the break line and drag it to shorten the view.
