I encountered a strange problem with SW 2010. I'm running Windows 7 Professional x64 edition. I installed SW 2010 certified drivers for Nvidia Quadro FX580.

I installed SW 2010 SP0 x64 edition at first. I started it and when I tried to open one simple *.sldprt file (made in SW 2009) SW crashed. It is interesting that I can open and manipulate *.slddrw files and it does not crash. The same thing happens when I try to open new *.sldprt file (SW crashes). When I open new empty *.slddrw file, SW works perfectly.
Nothing changed when I installed SP01.

From attachment you can see that *.slddrw file is opened and when I tried to open *.sldprt file it crashes and Windows show me that message - "Solidworks has stopped working" (sorry that it is in Slovenian language).

I'm guesing that it could be graphic related problem. If someone encountered same problem and resolved it please help me.

Thanks for reply!

1) If I try to convert 2009 files to 2010 files using task scheduler it doesn't work or I'm doing it wrong. Whwn SW tries to convert file it opens and then crashes like I would open it.

2) I attached a simple file. If someone can try to open it, please.

3) I tried to reset the registry. It doesn't work.

4) Will try to reslove it first and then try clean uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks for help.

I've tried clean install/uninstall and still nothing.

Can Anyone tell me what do I need to be aware of if I will install SW 2009 back. Clean uninstall of 2010? What should I remove from registry?

The Task scheduler always launches and closes SolidWorks like that which gets annoying when converting an entire directory. SolidWorks should leave the session open and then go through each file. The file may have updated to 2010 you can check this by trying to open in 2009 and see if it gives future version error. Or you can open a copy in a text editor and serch for "V E R S I O N" or just V E R if you see a 4400 string "4 4 0 0" then it is a 2010 version file 2009 would show 4 1 0 0.

Try Launching SolidWorks in one of the RX safe modes. Are there any other parts that will open? It might be file specific problem. Try this with some other parts or try creating a new 2010 part and seing if the same issue occurs. If you have more issues see if you can get your VAR to open a SR with SolidWorks to Update your files from 2009 to 2010 as a last resort.

Yes, I know that SW opens every time when converting to new version files. But im my case that means when SW starts it crashes and the starts again and crashes...

I'v tried to open a lot of parts, but it crashes at every part. Again I've tried to open one older *.slddrw file which is a bit more complex and it works (see attachments), there are some toolbox parts errors, but it works.

I've also tied to open file which CorBlimeyLimey saved in 2010 and it is still same problem.

Don't know what to try else.

I've also tried to run in both RX safe modes and still the same problem.
When I try to open new part, SW crashes.

Thanks for help so far...

Not yet. It looks I will have to. Thanks for help.

Try enabling Software OpenGL: faq559-1058.

I did a clean install without antivirus and then I enabled software OpenGL in SW. Nothing different.
Except I don't know where to turn software acceleration to "None" in Windows 7, because on that link it is for Windows XP. Is it under Nvidia control panel or under Windows control panel?

I solved it. I installed SP 2.1 and now it works, but SP0 didn't work. I had antivirus turned off as ctopher mentioned and there was no internet connection. I don't know if this makes any difference but I thought I will share it.

Thanks for help guys.
