Thanks for the heads-up, Tony. A star for you.

I'm not ready to run for the hills just yet, but I am a bit floored by the 10 GB of RAM you have in your machine. I'm not worthy...

anyone upgrade yet? I've heard nothing but bad stories on the SW forums regarding the early visibility version. I'm Not updating yet....

I'm assuming they corrected most of the problems during the release of EV. Addtional comments before I update would be helpful.
Thanks.

For subscription customers:
EV's are never too good of an idea to run in a production environment--well neither is SP0.0 for that matter. From the fix list I've seen it's very extensive and has some key fixes that my team has been waiting on.

BTW, I've upgraded to SP2.0 on my machine so far and will report any quirks/issues that I encounter.

There are a lot of fixes with 2.0. Too many to list here. Several have to do with Weldments.

Well. Here is an issue I found today after updating to 2.0 yesterday.
I updated the SP for everything. But, the eDrawings update really messed up my AutoCAD. It removed the .dwg info from the registry and replaced it with the eDrawing info. Every time I tried to open ANY .dwg or SolidWorks files, they opened in eDrawings.
Now, my pc also thinks something is still installing in the background. I can not download/install/uninstall anything!
My VAR had no answer!
Frustrating. I tried to uninstall all SolidWorks and AutoCAD to start over, but it will not let me.

Chris,
You can fix the opening thing in Windows explorer, under Tools, Folder Options, File Types, find the DWG file, and change it back to AutoCAD.

I did that. It keeps defaulting automatically back to eDrawings. Very weird.
Thanks.

Chris,

I also updated the other day and had the same problem with E-drawings taking over my ACAD, but the install itself completed successfully and I was able to redefine ACAD as the default of .dwg. Sounds like your install corrupted.

Well, I am totally scr**d!
SP2.0 did something to my laptop. eDrawings has taken over even after uninstalling it and removing from the registry. Changed the file types, etc.
Now, PDMWorks client is gone and it will not let install it back. Now, I want to completely remove anything that has to do with SolidWorks and start over. It will not let me do that either! My VAR says it's out of their hands!
UGH!

Scary stories. We were ready to move up to 2008 this week. Now we will postpone it until these things get sorted out.

If you wait "until these things get sorted out", you will never install another upgrade. There are so many variables which can affect an install that these things happen to some people at any and every stage of the version. Most people have few, if any, problems.

[cheers]

We've had frequent crashes since our upgrade, and the "data" directory didn't populate correctly on most machines. The crashes I mentioned so far come without any error statements, the program just shuts down so they are very hard to debug.

The speed of 2008 is terrible compared to our 2007 installation and a lot of the older intuitive features are no longer available. Lots of new flashy (read useless) stuff to make everything look pretty but very little functionality upgrades. Looking back I'd rather be still running 2007 - so far it seems to have been a better software package with less issues. I'm sure with time they'll get it sorted out but right now its safe to say I'm not a big fan.

We made the upgrade to '08 without a single problem when SP 1.1 came out, I've been running 2.0 for about a week now without a problem. I can honestly say that the jump to '08 was the best move we've made concerning SW since we moved to SW '06 SP 3. And with the Realview graphics turned off '08 performs as well, if not better than '07, with much greater stability.

2008 is great. I just had issues with SP2.0.

That's what I am talking about. Edrawing taking over Autocad drawings and not be able to claim them back. It would be awful.

I was looking to upgrade mainly because an issue with SW2007 that started around SP3.0 and it's still there in SP5.0. The issues is instability in saving custom properties using a Visual Basic program. It happens quite often. I better start another thread for it.

I've done the upgrade, and I don't have any (new) issues that I'm dealing with. Now, old issues are another story...

A temp fix. I had to uninstall eDrawings, and remove from the registry, then reinstall AutoCAD.
Now...my PDMWorks Client install is gone and it will not let me reinstall it. It doesn't even show up on my DVD anymore. I can see the vault through Wind Expl and can login as admin, but can't checkin/checkout and the addin for PDMW in SW is gone.
My VAR has been useless. They tell me to see my IT person. That's me!
I may have to reimage my hard drive and start over!
