i was just browsing by when i read denniro's reply to herry's query which attracted my cuoriousity! is it realy possible to interact with sap2000 to the extent that you can create your own element subroutine and run it within the main program. that would be marvelous!

It is impossible to create SOLIDs using SAP2k interface, and editing .s2k file is pretty boring job.

My experience says that the best way is to draw them using AutoCAD and import .dxf file into SAP2k.
In AutoCAD, future SOLIDs should be drawn as meshed polygons (use 3D AutoCAD command) not as solid 3D objects. [sig]
Zoran Brujic
zbrujic@uns.ns.ac.yu
[/sig]

How about using CSI Section Builder to create sections? can these sections be extruded to generate solids in Sap2000?

You could model them graphically in STAAD and then export it to SAP via CIS/2 or DXF.
