I was wondering if anyone was using sola switchable 24VDC power supplies. We are currently using model SDN 10-24-100 that is switchable from 110 to 220 incoming line voltage to 10-24 VDC out put. We are using them in a RTU package and are having multible failures most do to MOSFET failures. I was wondering if anyone else is expriencing the same failures and if so have you found a solution. Maybe someone knows of a more reliable power supply that can take extreme ambient temp. range of say between 10 to 160 degrees F?

Suggestion: Visit
and type "power supply" under "Product / Service", which will return
"Power Supplies: DC 352 Companies" to search for more information and hopefully a better product that you have. Usually, power supply companies have a good product literature and tech support.

My suggestion would be to contact Sola. I've used the supply in question without the problems you are experiencing.

I believe the temperature range is the problem. 160 F is about 70 C and that's beyond most electronics specifications. I've seen many 50 C ambient products, but I can't think of any 70C ambient products.

Comment:
1. Normally, the ambient temperature would be up to 60°C (140°F) because of some conductors have their temperature rating of conductor (related to insulation and ampacity) limit. There are however conductors that are rated higher, e.g. 75°C (167°F). These could be potentially aligned with power supplies that are designed for 160°F.
2. The electronic devices also have their ambient temperature limits because of their parameters may experience their operating point larger drifts.
