Dear fellow engineers,

My customer bought a 5-ton & 10-ton coal-fired boiler from China and we do not know how to design the steel chimney for it. The manufacturer already provide dust collector etc. Can anyone direct me to the right books/codes to design the steel chimney? Thanks.

Budiarto,

There is a British standard for steel chimneys called BS4076 but if I was in your shoes I would talk to a specialist supplier. No code will cover all you need to know.

Try CICIND model code, ASME STS-1-1992, BS 4076:1989 or other pressure vessel/boiler books. It may be worth while getting the OEMs of the Boiler to give you their requirements, Airflow, exhaust air temp. etc before proceeding. The job is straight forward if you know what you are doing other wise it can be dangerous.

Thank you athomas236 and dooron for your information. I will pressure the manufacturer to give more information soon.
