For an existing building, I need to confirm that a steel bar joist with the following tag "SMI Joist SC Eastover 71021403 J6 is a
32 LH 09. SMI Joist appears to have vanished.

Anybody know who took over this company?

Unfortunately, many of those old tags are just mark numbers for erection and don't contain the joist size like the current ones do.

PT99, were you ever able to find out any info about this company? I have the same situation, and i'm looking for info on a joist girder truss.

Thanks!

The older tag should have a job number and a joist number. If the company still exists and still has project records they may be able to tell you what designation you have. As JLNJ stated, the J6 is probably the number that matches they erection drawing callout but it can be used to trace the designation if they still have the job records.

Thanks Ron but i'm just trying to find out info about the company itself and contacting them, or more so, who took them over.

No, I wasn't able to find more information regarding the tags, I did have existing plans and went with that, as everything else in this structure checked.
