Sloped LVL to Wood Post

Hi,

Attached a sketch where a perimeter LVL (on a low-slope) is to be supported by a built-up post. Is it a common detail to have a wedge or shim on top of the post to have a proper bearing of the beam onto the post. And tie both the members together with straps?

You can just have them field trim the built-up post. No shim is needed.
 
The other option is to take a wedge out of the LVL member, if the beam was supported on a top plate or lintel that's the only way to practically do it.
