Slip joint

Hi,

I am trying to model a slip joint of poles using ABAQUS. I have been successfully able to model it however when I try to run the analysis to study the stresses developed in the slip joint of two poles it always says time increment too large and the simulations stop. I am unable to figure out the reason. Kindly help

Have you tried reducing your time step?

yes.I have played around with the time step but still i am unable to find out what is going wrong?And also my model should fail only after it reaches the yield stress of steel but it fails in 5000psi itself. I am unable to figure out why this is happening

Perhaps there's an instability? Have you tried the Riks solver?
