Slip Critical Connections in Industrial Pipe Racks

What are the pros and cons of specifying slip critical connections for bracings in industrial pipe racks exposed to weather(+90F summers to -20F winters) not a seismic zone, with high winds?
 
None that I can think of.

Slip critical is not affected by the thickness of the plies. So if you're close to the design limits for bearing connections, you'll need to thicken the connecting parts. This might end up increasing the member sizes and impacting the entire design.

I see no reason to have SC connections in such a case....please share your take on this.
