Has anyone used the Allen Bradley ArmorPoint I/O yet? I'm trying to determine if I can use EtherNet/IP to communicate with it from a SLC 5/05 processor. I believe I've found that you can communicate using ControlNet, but I'd prefer EtherNet/IP
Yes, you can get an Ethernet adapter for ArmorPoint I/O but your 5/05 is not designed to do I/O messaging to ArmorPoint I/O. You need something such as Controllogix or Compactlogix system to make it true Ethernet/IP I/O.
Unfortunately AB did add the capability of doing some CIP Messaging to the SLC 5/05 in their last firmware. Some people, who have absolutely no concern for safety, have adapted this to "read" the I/O of devices such as the ArmorPoint I/O. I certainly hope that have enough concern for people's safety and enough ethics to refrain from doing this, as it can have extremely dangerous consequences. There is no determinism in this method and no way of guaranteeing that packets are delivered. Did that packet telling the output to turn off actually get there? Who knows
