Our company was looking for a primer to fit the bill for our heat exchanger "shop coat" primer for operating at moderate temperatures. The product that fit best was a Silicone Alkyd Heat Resistant Coating. It has worked well, but the primer we selected comes only in White (up to 450F) and Black (up to 800F). There is a preference for our heat exchanagers to go out grey. We asked about just mixing some black into the white, but the coating manufacturer didn't like that. There are not many vessels going out in the 800F range (without a paint specification), so I'm not concerned about the black, but it would be nice to get grey for up to 450F vessels (and make everyone happy), using the primer we already selected.
Is there an easy way to get the pigmentation in the white without affecting the coating? Can a grey finish coat be applied any recommendations (urethane, epoxy, silicone, etc..)? Any other ideas to get grey? The environment of our vessels are indoor or outdoor (some near oceans) and coating will be insulated. We prefer a cost effective, brush/roller application, and fast dry times without cure.
