Should I sign on Schedule C-2? 4

As a professional engineer in Alberta, I signed Schedule B-1 to authority that I will responsible for field review of concrete foundation. However, field review was performed by site engineers. Everything is arranged by the company. Now the construction is complete. I need to sign on Schedule C-2 to authority that I have fulfilled my obligation for field review.

I feel uncomfortable to sign on C-2 because I did not know much about construction. I am thinking to get some information from site, such as field review report, concrete inspection reports, name of shop drawing reviewer, qualification of those engineer, inspector and shop drawing reviewer.

Is it necessary and appropriate for me to ask such information, especially the qualification of person? Should I sign on C-2 because the company has arranged everything?

Any comments and suggestion are appreciated very much. Thanks.

Sounds to me like this is something you should have been at while it was still being built.

As soon as you found that you were not doing field review, you should have notified the authority having jurisdiction of the revised status.

You have not fulfilled your obligation for field review, so you cannot sign Schedule C-2. The site engineers who performed the inspection of the work are the only ones who could legitimately sign Schedule C-2.

Agree with BA here. You do need to write a letter to the local jurisdiction and the owner stating that you were not required to do the inspecting as it was performed by others. Hence, you cannot legally sign the C-2 form.

Heck, it's just paperwork that will just end up in the toilet anyway. It's just that when you need it, it CYA.

I am in the situation that I have to sign on Schedule C-2. I am thinking to collect some documents and do site visit even it is complete.

I enclose a copy of the documents you mentioned. When you learned that you were not going to be retained to do shop drawing review and field review, you should have informed the authority having jurisdiction that you were no longer able to keep your commitment made in Schedule B1. The authority may have stopped construction until a satisfactory solution could be found.

You are not in a situation where you have to sign Schedule C-2. You are in a situation where, if you sign Schedule C-2, you are making a false declaration and sealing it with your professional seal. If you learn anything from this forum, learn that you must never sign a false declaration...under any circumstances.

The party who decided you were not required to review shop drawings and visit the site to review construction is in a situation where he may not have his permit approved. He needs you to falsify an Alberta Building Code Schedule in order to achieve his goal. Don't do it...not now...not ever.
