Dear all,

Is there any regulation regarding the use of short radius elbow in above ground non mettalic composite material piping used in RO and STP projects. I mean is it totally prohibited or allowed with certain conditions like that . Also please give the reference ,if possible

Thanks

nabeel3,
You wrote some most unusual questions. I will try to offer some answers (in Red).
Is there any regulation regarding:
(1) the use of short radius elbows? Response:"NO"
(2) in above ground non metallic composite material piping? Response: "NO"
(3) used in RO and STP projects? Define "RO" and "STP"
(4) I mean is it totally prohibited? Response: "NO"
(5) I mean is it totally allowed with certain conditions like that? Like what?
(6) Also please give the reference ,if possible. Can't give what does not exist.

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

RO and STP is Reverse osmosis and sewerage treatment plant
So v can use short radius elbow without any restrictions.

Thank you pennpiper....

You "can" use them.

Now whether it is a good idea is a completely different question.

Your stress concentration will be higher than longer radius elbows.

Why are you asking?

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

SR elbows increase flow resistance over LR elbows.
Usually make fitting other components a bit more difficult during maintenance and installation, removal.
If you don't absolutely have to use them to save space in a particular location, don't use them.

nabeel3,
I had a question and forgot to ask it with my first post.

What are the line sizes you are dealing with for these Short Radius Elbows?

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

For forged steel fittings, long-radius is the default and they are cheaper.
Mitered ells are permissible in some applications.
For ductile iron/cast iron fittings, short-radius is the default and they are cheaper.
For PVC solvent-weld fittings, they are normally very short radius, more or less a corner.
So depends on the material and the field of work, I suppose.
