Im trying to verify a model that is a short beam, and i cant seem to get it correct. 19x28-->8.5x19 taper over 43". i can verify the rest, but the deflections are goofy. any direction?

Check boundary conditions.
Check how loads are applied.
Provide a lot more details about what you are modeling and about your model.
Define "goofy" (its not an engineering term); what are you comparing to?

shell type structure, .750" thick, acts as cantilever beam, modeled with fixed support and load applied to a plate on top. the load is applied to the face as components.

for deflection verification, the loads are applied only in one direction. the working calc is compressive deflection, and by goofy i mean by hand i am getting about 1/2 of the ANSYS values
