I would appreciate a reference which can guide me for the design of above. The glacial till materials are dense and are to be excavated to a depth of 3 m. The local practice uses soil anchors and shotcrete. I would also appreciate if you tell me other shoring methods.

A 3m cut can be handled by a cantilever soldier beam or cantilever sheetpile. Anchors are needed for cuts over 4.5 m generally. If you are more than 1.5H (4.5 m) away from any surcharges, you could have a vertical cut in the lower 1.5 m and slope away the upper 1.5 m at 1.5H:1V.

I guess the soldier beam is a I beam or a pipe pile.(?) I am in favour of pile pipes. Wonder if the common practice is to drive the cantilever into the soil 7.5 m and then excavate the top 3 m.Or should I have a borehole and then put the pipes and make concrete around it.

What design methods I should use to include the trafic load from the nearby road, etc. Thank you.
