Years ago, I had a few rules. Using a little common sense
(1) everything must be clean.
(2) shims = 80% of the foot contact area.
(3) No more then five shims.... Sometimes soft foot will take more. If the feet or base is really out of spec fix before continuing.
(4) Shim pumps using either a .125 or .250 ... The reason and example: You don't know where the manufacture's center-line is exactly the tolerance could be plus 0 or minus .0625 or more. If you have to replace the unit and it is on the plus side of it you waste more time messing with the driver.
