Hi, does any have a good reference on how to calculate the shear capacity of beams with Pipe penetration? Usually we limit this to the 1/3 of the beam depth. then add some additional diagonal bars and stirrups within the opening. It is in the typical details of our plans. But i want to know what is the theory or principle on dealing with this scenario. My inquisitive mind is nagging me to know the why, rather than being contented for the reason that it is a "standard detail". The Senior engineers say they dont also know (may they don't really know or they just dont want to share knowledge)

ishvaaag thank you for this. I will try to find that ACI structural journal.
