I have recently been introduced to shakedown loading and understand it is used in bridge design for economy. I design buildings and shakedown analysis is not used that I have ever seen.

My question is; how many of you are using shakedown or autostress in designing bridges and how do existing residual stress from fabrication affect the analysis? What is the difference between shakedown and autostress? I am interested but can find very little information on shakedown analysis, the books being from the 1950's.

Wow, as long as I've been in the business, I've never heard of shakedown analysis. I have heard of Autostress but have never applied this and have thought it some thing didn't stand the test of time....

It will be interesting to hear what insight others offer...
