I'm searching for technical references, spreadsheets and advice that will help investigate the following proposed application. A vertical tank has an ammonia-laden air atmosphere trapped in it. Concentration of NH3 is about 2 volume %. The tank has water spray nozzles in the top head. The idea is to spray water through the contents (no materials leave the tank) until the vapor content is below the odor threshold of ammonia (5 ppm). I have the ammonia-water VLE data, so I know the quantity of water needed. The questions I need to investigate are - how much time is needed, effects of water droplet size, how fast or slow to spray water, is water recycle to spray nozzles required, etc.

Good luck,
Latexman

Dear Friend Latexman;

Although not any spread sheets,technical reference,I forward an idea from blue (i.e. my Fire fighting related past)

To explore the high pressure fog/ very fine mist forming nozzles utilization.

This may provide much superior near-vapor phase intimate contact;thereby better absorption achievement/removal is anticipated.

Hope this sparks help.

Best Regards

Why must this be done inside of the tank ?

What about an external scrubbing system ?

Because we have the tank and it has spray nozzles already in it. It's basically a no cost solution. I'd like to predict how it may perform before we try it, but without that, we'll try it and see how it works. We can measure the ammonia in the vapor space on a periodic basis during the first few times until we develop some operating experience and set the procedure.

Good luck,

Dear Latexman,
Wish you best of Luck and success in your trial;If that is going to be Good in future(without any miseries/ hardships coming your way).

Best Regards
