I am working on designing modifications to an existing self-support tower that has truss legs.

I am trying to figure out how to analyze the modified truss leg in TNX.

I am planning on using a part manufactured by SitePro1 - tie-rod bracket with 2" std. pipe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are talking about TNXtower (was RISATower), call the program administrator. He is very helpful - I forget his name but have dealt with him in the past on a few occasions. The number should be on the inside of your instruction manual.

There is also a way to add to the program database with new section shapes and properties. And there are additional programs out there to help you determine what the combined section properties of complex shapes are.

I have had to do this process several times in dealing with tower modifications.

I agree with msquared's advice. The TNX expert that I think he is referring to is:

Its been a few years, but from what I remember we would put a new truss leg property into tnx with a leg rod diameter that gives an area equivalent to the new higher total area of rods to check the overall section, and then pull the reactions in the leg into excel for some more checks (distribution of load into each rod/individual rod checks and a few other things).

We also made sure to add the tie rods in for wind area.
