Hi,

I have been working on a project for my CAD-course, at home, using version 19 of Solid Edge. And when I brought it to class today, where we use version 17 of Solid Edge, I was unable to open it. So, I learnt about Solid Edges compatibility issues.

Is there any way of saving my work in SE v19 for use, or atleast viewing, in v17?
Or do you have any other suggestions on how my teacher could review my work?

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan M.

Hi,

first there is no parametric 3D-CAD that has backwards compatibilty
between primary released versions, SE is not exception.
You may save your work in neutral format such as Parasolid
(.x_t) or .STP where Parasolid is the preferred one.

I find it quite worrying that a CAD course is still using V17 !!

bc.
2.4GHz Core2 Quad, 4GB RAM,
Quadro FX4600.

V17 is quite new compared to V12 that is in use by some schools
(found in a German NG) ...

Thank you, really didn't expect such a swift reply.

Will give it a try, got to wait until wednesday to see if it works though.

With a neutral format, you have to realize that all the features and history will be gone. Be careful, if you save it to Parasolid, to save it in an old version. In the save dialog box, go to options, not sure what version of Parasolid was included in Solid Edge V17. It doesn't necessarly match SE's release number. You may want to save your parts/assemblies in a few different versions to be sure.

Of course, no such problem with STEP, but it may give more random results when importing.

V12 dates back what, 6 or 7 years?!?
