Can anyone direct me to info on max pressure rating for 2-1/2" Schedule 40 Carbon Steel Pipe?

J. Alton Cox

It depends on:

What code are you designing to? B31.3 ??
Is the pipe subject to cyclic loading? No ??
What is the temperature of the pipe? 100 degF ??
What is the Mill tolerance? 12.5% ??
Is the pipe threaded or welded? Welded with factor of 1 ??
What is the corrosion allowance? 0? not a good choice ??
What alloy steel is the pipe made from? A106B ??
Are there any transient loads? No ??

Somewhere around 2500 psi for the above assumptions. You really need to take a close look at your design conditions to determine the allowable pressure. Any number you get for maximum pressure is meaningless unless it is calculated with the appropriate design conditions.
