scale and printout in land

Hello everyone,
This is a land desktop newbie question.
I want to know if possible how i can insert a scale that adjust dynamically. I inserted a scal from utilies/symbole manager.
When i want to print from view ports, i adjust the scale to fit my view port in the layout window. After printing i find out the scale is not what it is supposed to be.
Can anyone help me or give a link for a good tutorial on printing and scales ?
