Saving file out from assembly 1

If you have an assembly and save a part out under a new file name (not a copy), why does the file description in the assembly tree not update to match what you named the file?

Looks like saving the file as a copy then replacing it in the assembly does take care of that issue, but it's more steps.

Just curious!

You need the assy open when you do save as of the part.
Or, use SW Explorer to rename/copy/etc.

Yes, assembly is open.....see pic.

RMB gives proper name (to 220 copy)
Assy feature tree preserves old name
Have to RMB on part in assy tree and manually change in properties menu.

Oh well, looks like a little more work but manageable. Mainly just curious why the assy tree doesn't update with the good ole "save as". thx

Yes, the file name will change, but not the properties.
You can rename 'and' change properties within SW Explorer.

First;
Go to Tools > Options > System Options >External References and make sure Update component names when documents are replaced is selected under the Assemblies sub-section.

Second;
Most times a Ctrl Q is required for the FM to be updated.
