Hi All,

I've been doing some customization of my popup menu (MB3) in NX 7.5 (modeling and drafting) to have my most commonly accessed tools available, this is a Windows 7 workstation.

I would like to find the location of the file that saves all these customizations; where would this be found?

Correct me if I've missed it but isn't .MTX primarily for saving user Roles for example?
I've tried some alternatively odd methods to find this like making some changes then searching the (entire) system for files recently modified 'today' for example and could not find any file that I recognized.

I found the .MTX files in C:\Users\Tetragrammaton\AppData\Local\Unigraphics Solutions\NX75 and looked in other folders and found nothing.

I have turned on show hidden for files and folders just in case but no luck.

I have spent some time searching through previous posts with respect to this or even vaguely similar posts without much success. Apologies in advance if I've missed it but did not think I've seen it clearly stated anywhere where these changes are stored.

Many thanks in advance and would appreciate any assistance and advice.

Best Regards

The 'user.mtx' file found at the location that you listed is a sort of 'master' copy that gets updated every time you exit NX. It contains all of the changes that were made to the UI which includes which icons were set to be active/inactive, any additions to the keystroke shortcuts as well as any modification to the so-called radial popups as well as the 'View Popup'.

During an NX session any changes to the UI, as describe above, will be held in memory until you exit NX when these changes will be saved in the 'user.mtx' file, whether you save what you were working on or not. Now when you create a user-defined 'Role', these files, which are also '.mtx' files, gets saved in a folder named 'roles', in the same folder where the 'user.mtx' file is located. These 'role' '.mtx' files are basically a copy of what gets saved in the 'user.mtx' file. Note that irrespective of whether you've applied a 'Role' during your session or not, when you exit the 'user.mtx' is updated and it's what's used to set the UI when you start the next session of NX. In fact, the 'user.mtx' is the file that it always going to be used. All a 'role' does it reset the UI as if IT had been the 'user.mtx' file. If after applying a 'role' you were to exit immideately, the contents of that role's '.mtx' file would be the same as the 'user.mtx' file that gets updated.

Hi John,

Many thanks for the clarification.
Once you pointed out the fact that changes are not written to the file until you exit then I remember the 'Save User Preferences' on exit option.
Though it did not occur to me that they were written to the the .mtx file.
However after trawling through several pages at the bottom of the file I can indeed see the changes I have made.
So definitely good to know.

Thanks again and have a great day.
