As a general rule, stainless steels and chlorine are not a good combination. Therefore, a bit more information about your application is necessary. I'm not sure whether you're just looking for some general information about stress corrosion cracking, whether you're looking for material properties for various grades of steel, or whether what you really want is to know the best material to use when you've a process that requires submergence in a warm chlorine or bromine bath (and what is "warm"?)

Scenario: submerged machine parts in a hydro-therapeutic environment.

Chlorinated/brominated water is very different than bromine- or chlorine-SATURATED water...quite a few orders of magnitude in both bromine/chlorine and bromide/chloride ion concentrations in these two cases.
