I am re-rating a S&T exchanger using a commercial software. The current design pass at the new design conditions based on ASME Sect VIII, however it fails based on TEMA. The warning received indicates the tubesheet thickness required (1.528") is below the actual tubesheet thickness (1.5"). My understanding and this is where I need your input, is that as long as ASME is satisfied you are OK.

Thanks in advance

Where in the world are you, what are the local rules?

In USA/Canada, you would be correct. ASME is required by law, and TEMA is an industry guideline but not a law.

alcajema50, there are numerous pitfalls in a re-rate, but to address your specific question, TEMA tubesheet thickness calculations are not mandatory, ASME is, so you should be OK. Should be :)

Regards,

Mike

Thanks for your replies, the equipment and I are in USA
