I want to create a geometric runout tolerance like the one in this drawing:

View attachment 2874

I'm talking about the diameter dimension with the big filled arrow-head attached to it and the corresponding reference letter (A), which I then use for runout tolerances elsewhere in the part/drawing.

Can't really figure out how to do this =X

Sorry for spamming the forums =P

What you want to do is SET a DATUM so it can be referenced by a geometric tolerance.

First, you must have an axis in your part. Then pick:

Edit/Setup/Geom Tol

Select the axis, change it's name to A (or whatever) and under placement chose In Dim then pick the dimension you want.

I created the axis ('thru cyl' type, the primary circular surface as reference). I then go to Insert>Geo.Tol, but under Runout I can't select an axis as a reference. Only options are surface and entity. Placing the Gtol works fine though. When creating the Gtol with the circular surface as the reference nothing shows up in the drawing (only the placed Gtol). I guess that's because I need the axis for this?

I think it works a bit different in WF3... Created an In Dim datum axis (which dim am I supposed to use?), then created the Gtol with the primary circular surface as Model Ref, placed it on a dimension elsewhere on the drawing and the Datum Axis as a Datum Ref. A boxed 'A' (name of the axis) is shown along the axis, which might be a correct notation for the Gtol reference. But I want some sort of dimension with the big filled arrowhead and the boxed A attached to it!

Quite a confusing story

Sorry for that...

I don't know about WF3 but in WF2 you would select the datum and right click, choose properties. From there you should be able to attach it to a dimension.

You should be able to select the datum, right click, choose properties and from this form you can attach the datum to a dimension. At least you can in WF2.

Yes thanks. Attaching it to a dim works:

And Gtol placement as well:

But now I'd like it to be attached like in the acad printscreen above... (dim + big filled yellow arrow etc.)

Sorry about the mutiple posts but my browser is acting strange.

To do that you need to set the "gtol_datums" to std_iso_jis in your drawing setup file.

Tomake the datum look way you want use "Normal leader" as the attachment method. The datum arrow can be attached to geometry or the witness line of a dimension. Once you have attached it you can drag it around to line it up by clicking near the arrow, clicking on the textwill not work.

In this image I have attached it to the witness line and aligned with a snap line.
