I have a small fractional hp 120vac reluctance sychronous gearmotor driving at stirrator at 69rpm. I'd like to reduce the output to 30rpm. What options do I have without replacing the gearmotor. I have a variac but not sure if reducing the voltage only will cause the motor to overheat.

You may find it cheaper and easier to replace the gearmotor with one a variable speed unit.

with the same configuration you can purchase a VFD from Invertek(UK) they have single phase VFD with the features that you need
