Hello All,

So sort of new to WPS and prequalification of procedures, however I am required to have one for welding round bar to piles. This is something that we have done for years but have never been required to have a procedure for... well at least not to my knowledge.

Here is the detail of the joint: SMAW procedure welding 1" Diam Round Bar Double Flare-Bevel-Groove Weld to a 14" Diam x 0.375" Wall Pipe Pile.

From what I have read in D1.1 in Clause 3 there is no Prequalified WPS for this certain situation (unless I am missing something. I studied joint designation BTC-P10 Page 84 of the 2010 D1.1 book, but that is the closes I could find to the joint but it wont work.

Any suggestion of where to go from here?

Thanks in advance!

From the description you provided it sounds like a B-P11 is more appropriate. A sketch of the configuration would be helpful.

The size of the weld, thus the load it can transfer is limited by Table 2.1.

Best regards - Al
