I've started a new job in Missouri and need suggestions for reference manuals to learn to design culverts and roads. My expertise is in GIS and grading and drainage from the East Coast. Can anyone suggest a good book.
I'll second semo's advice. Missouri DOT design manual, highway standards, etc., is the place to start. Add HEC-22 (Urban Drainage Design Manual) to the FHWA publications already mentioned. Army Corps of Engineers is a good source for computer software.
Of course, contct your local Department of transportation. They have excellent manuals. Also contact local municipalities for their input. Then of course, there is the ever present asphalt people in your area who know the score. Talk to them all.
