I'm looking for foundation engineering software which addresses the design of residential foundations (slabs on grade, pier and beam, etc.) on expansive soils. Something which could also produce design details would be ideal. Does anyone have a personal favorite that might fit this requirement?

Are you looking for software to do something you don't have the experience or capability to do analytically? If so, don't go there. If not, develop spreadsheets for something like this.

I have not practiced for many years but am currently getting back up to speed technically. The spreadsheet idea is certainly practical and I have thought of that but the CAD connection aspect of the software is important. I don't have CAD capability and I was looking for that along with a check on my own calculations. I've been licensed for over 25 years and I agree one should never practice beyond his or her technical expertise. That's a fast track to losing your license as well as getting sued.
