I need to design a foundation for a 400 ton hydraulic press. What are the primary concerns ... eg soil bearing pressure, resonance between the foundation and press, dynamic loading, etc.
what will determine the thickness of the foundation?
Does the foundation weight need to be 5 times the weight of the press?

I have been taught it needs to be twice the weight of the press in order to control vibration.

Is a press really cyclic loading?

You need to know the foundation size and applied bearing pressure, plus amplitude and frequency, if vibration is a risk.
