Regarding Member CS

Dear All,

Let me ask you a question: Is the member forces referred to the local CS o Global CS?.

I did a very simple model, a vertical beam (IPN). One node fixed and the other one with a concentrated force (-1N). Under this assumption, the resulting axial force should be tensile. However this value is negative which I could think as the member is under compression (obviously not)

As far as I know : Tensile: Positive / Compression: Negative

How RISA3D deals with this?.

Read the RISA help files as they do a good job of explaining their sign convention for loads on members. There is a nice diagram in there that shows how they handle it.

For axial load, the RISA sign convention is Compression = positive, Tension = Negative. That does trip people up from time to time.
