I am using version 18 and have a rather large 3d assembly. All the sub-assemblies are controlled using the ref set "solid" to keep any unwanted datums etc out of the upper level. However, occasionally when i open my upper level assembly the sub assemblies are not being displayed. They are loaded but the only way to display them in the upper level is to change them globally to entire part the n change back to SOLID. This works perfectly but i am curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks in advance

Am I missing a trick? Do the sub assemblies contain a SOLID ref set? Check your load options, set to load SOLID?
Assy should load fine

Take a look at your Assemblies Report when this happens to see if this gives you an idea of what is happening, i.e., parent reference sets, loaded status, etc.

This does seem strange behaviour, especially if it's intermittent. You mention a global change to ref sets... if a parent assembly needs to have its ref set changed for you to see the child sub-assemblies then these would not have been originally loaded (as they are considered excluded).

What do the checkboxes of the component nodes contain when you load the assembly? Are they red checks, grey checks or blank? What is the reference set of the parent assembly of these components that aren't loading?

As Mark mentions - check your Default Reference Sets available from the "File -> Load Options" dialog.

I had the same problem in V18. If you install the latest maintenance release for V18, it will correct it.
