Hello All.

As shown in attached picture we have as a site setting the "Add Components Automatically" set for the Reference Set "model".
This is a desired setting which we do not want to change.

Now I have made the setting to automatically create a reference set for Simplified Geometry like the Linked Exterior.
When I create a linked exterior, the ref set will be nicely created with the linked exterior in it.
HOWEVER.... it will also automatically add the components from my assembly to that ref set. This I do not want. It is probably happening because of the earlier setting we nade for ref set model.

Is there any way I can prevent this automatically adding of components to the lightweight ref set?

Personally, I would never run NX with the "Add Components Automatically" option toggled ON. In the long run, I think you'll find that avoiding creating Reference Sets of Assemblies (which in essence is what this is doing) will prove to be beneficial in that it will avoid problems downstream, of which you've just stumbled on yourself.

BTW. why did you set the "Add Components Automatically" option in the first place? What advantage do you feel are getting from this?

In recent versions, this option is turned on by default.

That shouldn't be the case.

Yes, that helps significantly, but only if people actually use the 'Assembly' templates when creating an Assembly.

Hi John...

The reason for having the "Add Components Auomaticaly" setting is that (in a multisite environment) most of the business lines feel that this is an easy way to prevent people from forgetting to update the reference set model when new components are added to assemblies. Specially because we have different engineers working on different sub assemblies..

But I seem to have found a workaround... if I add the same ref set name to the User Reference Sets section (see attached picture) I can tell the system to Not add components automatically for those.
