I have a model that consists of lots of cylinders all of which have 20 verticies. When i attempt to export this model to 3d studio MAX i am told by AutoCAD that there are too many verticies to resolve?

Does anyone know how to reduce the number of veticies on a revolved surface without having to redraw it??

thanks

John,

The vertices are controlled by the resolution of the model at the time of the 3DS export. The FACETRES command sets this resolution. Autocad defaults this setting at <3>. I usually run mine at <0.5>. You can play with the setting to get the desired amount. The side effect of reducing the facet resolution is the lower the number, the more blocky and less smooth the surface will appear.

You may also have such a complex model that the number of verticies is hitting a upper limit built into autocad. You can use the SLICE command to cut your model into pieces and export each piece and possibly reassemble them in 3dstudio. I am unfamiliar with 3dstudio and do not know if that is even possible.

Hope this helps,

Why bother with this? It seems you have MAX, so just import the DWG directly into MAX. Within MAX you have tools to reduce the polygon count if you need to do that.
