Hey everyone,

I currently have this motorcycle with a rear drum brake. I am hoping to do redesign the hub to accommodate a rear disc brake with the calipers mounted on the swingarm. Does anyone have and comments or suggestions as to where to start? Thanks.

Talk about re inventing the wheel ;-)

Try the motorcycle surplus market, scrapyard or, even Craig's List. It's not rocket science to re lace a wheel to a new hub, BUT WHY?

Buy a complete assembly from some other model that has approximately the same rear wheel size, but already has a disk brake. Have a look at the way rear brake calipers are mounted on existing production models.

I'm with Brian. There a loads of used wheels on Ebay or Craig's list that will have a disc brake fitted. You just need to match up axle diameter and probably make a spacer or two to get it centered. The hardest part will be attaching a caliper to the swing arm. Don't go overboard on wheel width or you might run into a clearance problem with the chain.

Thanks folks. I yanked a hub from a 91 yz. Working with it right now.

Alright folks I'm back.

Right now I'm cadding up the hub and I'm having trouble determining the placement of the spoke holes. Here's a picture explaining my problem.

I'm currently using Solidworks to model the hub, but I have a very vague idea of how to do them. Notice that the holes are angled.
