I am designing a concrete box that is 13.5 m long by 4.5 m wide by 5.1 m deep. I need to calculate the moments of each wall and the moments acting on the floor. A simple moment calculation if the force x distance where the force is acting. Now I have read a couple of books where they have used weigth of wall/floor (wf) x span (ln) squared x 1/8. I am a little confused and could use some insite into this.

The Portland Cement Association, many years ago, published a pamphlet for designing RC Box culverts. If it is still in print you can find it at their website. I used it in 1960 to design hundres of culverts in Los Angeles County which are in service today. It has probably been computerized by now so look their site over for free or low cost software.

Just be glad you don't have to do this on a hand crank Marchant Calculator, as we did.

If all else fails, let me know and I'll send you a copy so you can set up a spreadsheet to do the calc's.

Good luck
